On November 16, 2017, Professor Petitto’s Brain and Language Laboratory for Neuroimaging had the honor of welcoming US Secretary of Education, Honorable Betsy DeVos, and her staff. During the visit, we shared the laboratory’s latest findings of the neural underpinnings of bilingualism and language acquisition and its implications for educational policies. During the tour, Honorable Betsy DeVos showed particular interest in learning more about the mechanism of our neuroimaging technology, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and how it is used to understand how the human brain learns most optimally. She was also very interested in how the laboratory’s scientific findings were applied to the principles of Visual Language & Visual Learning (VL2) bilingual storybook apps. Thank you for visiting our Petitto Brain and Language Laboratory for Neuroimaging Honorable DeVos.
