Professor Laura-Ann Petitto is thrilled to make possible an intensive three-day training session for the Petitto Brain and Language Laboratory for Neuroimaging’s (BL2) three new functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) brain imaging systems, which she purchased from the NIRx company scientists in Germany.
The purchase was made possible through a grant that was funded by an anonymous Gallaudet University donor, to whom Petitto is exceptionally grateful. Petitto scheduled the training session at the start of the new school year (September 6, 7, 8) to benefit new and present Ph.D. in Educational Neuroscience (PEN) graduate students and faculty, as well as the Gallaudet and neighboring academic communities.
This state-of-the-art fNIRS neuroimaging technology will be used to study children’s cognitive and language development and joins Petitto’s other brain and behavioral technology (such as Thermal Infrared Imaging used to study emotions and eye-tracking technology used to study reading). Together, Petitto’s BL2 is a site of outstanding training for Gallaudet students in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering and mathematics-related disciplines; enhance PEN graduate students research and training courses in neuroscience methods; advance Gallaudet student research science and other professional career opportunities and choices after graduation, and catapult Gallaudet University’s standing as a leader among the nation’s universities for training in the neurosciences.
