Featured photo above: On February 15, 2017, Dr. Laura-Ann Petitto, director of the Brain & Language Laboratory for Neuroimaging, was interviewed for a documentary in production, titled “InVisible rEvolution.”
This documentary, directed by Chantal Deguire and shot on multiple locations in Canada and the United States, explores the unique intersection of Deaf culture, multiple signed and spoken languages, and modern science discoveries about the biological equivalence of signed and spoken languages in the human brain. Dr. Petitto discussed her laboratory’s research on the neural bases of signed and spoken language acquisition, the brain’s shared processing and acquisition of signed and spoken languages, and the role of Visual Sign Phonology in early sign-exposed deaf children’s reading acquisition and reading success.
